That's his (dad's) fucking car, Greed—]
Hey now, get up! I have the keys!
[He jingles them pointedly.]
no subject
no subject
Here, take the damn keys.]
You already moved the seat, didn't you? I had it perfectly set...
no subject
[But as he takes the keys, he leans in, stealing a quick kiss before Ling can think about it. He flashes him a little look, smug and teasing, and turns on the car, pulling out just a little too quickly.]
There's people who'd kill to get behind a car like this, and I do mean literally.
no subject
Do they at least obey traffic laws? I want to make it to dinner.
no subject
[He's admittedly going too fast, weaving through cars, but he handles the car well, driving smoothly without a hint of tension. And yeah, it's definitely to show off, but what of it?]
Where's your tie?
no subject
I never said I'd wear a tie.
no subject
Brat.
So what'd you tell your dad before you grabbed the car? Or did you just run off with it?
no subject
I just left! [Of course.] We don't talk much.
no subject
[This side is rapidly becoming that side; they're going to be at the restaurant within five minutes.]
no subject
[Don't bring up his daddy issues before dinner, that's kind of rude. Hmm. Well, as the neighborhood starts getting nicer,] I made reservations!
no subject
[With a valet and everything, who looks absolutely scandalized as Greed pulls up too sharply, so ha ha, this night was a success even based on that. It's a quick affair to flip him the keys and sling an arm around Ling, guiding them both into the restaurant.
Which is . . . big. Very big and very quiet, all hushed voices and lightly clinking silverware. As far a cry from the Devil's Nest as you can get, and just a little too hoity-toity for Greed's tastes, but hey! He'll give it a shot.
he's not dropping the issues thing, though. Just waiting til they're settled.]
no subject
[He can say this, it's fine. There's a little extra scandal in walking in like this because, indeed, the wait staff here know Ling at a glance - both because of his family and his appetite, for the record - and it's definitely never happened before that he's come in with anyone, let alone someone like Greed.
It's absolutely delightful, is what it is. Ling does the talking and they're led to their table, which is comfortably out of the way but not crammed into a forgotten corner somewhere, and even this one table is just as flashy and opulent as the rest of the restaurant's interior. Even the menu looks fancy. It's that kind of place.]
no subject
Even if he does miss the simplicity of the Devil's Nest.]
Anyway. Like I was saying. You usually see it with girls-- their father doesn't talk to them much, they want to get his attention, suddenly they come down and flirt with me because I'm bad news, and that's no good for somebody with a reputation.
[But. With that being said . . .]
. . . but your old man doesn't even know you're out here, huh. So maybe not.
no subject
It's not like my family ignores me, you know-- I am the first born son.
[It is actually kind of inescapable! Not speaking to his father might be- Ling tells himself sometimes, and occasionally believes it- a bonus.]
Maybe it's youthful rebellion.
no subject
There's a difference between paying a person attention because he's useful to you and paying him attention because you like him.
[Which is sort of funny, isn't it, because he'd started looking at Ling as the former, and now . . . no, it's still the former. Just because they're having fun doesn't stop making this a useful connection to make.]
But hey: I'll take youthful rebellion. People don't usually take me out to dinner for it, you're a nice change.
no subject
I don't really need any of them to like me.
[It's true, and really, he doesn't think many members of the Yao family actually do care for him, as a person. He's a chess piece; he knows this. There isn't time for warmth in business; he knows this as well. But he's been looked after and no one has been cruel, so -- it'll do.
Anyway, ooh, a nice change!! Nice, that sounds like it'll get him at least a few kisses.]
You just want to feed me old peanuts and tequila-- I'll starve!
no subject
You'll be fine. There's plenty of people who live on bar peanuts and tequila-- and cherries, don't act like I don't give you those too.
[The noble hunter bringing home food for his mate . . . truly he is amazing.]
Besides: it'd be worth it. Wouldn't it?
no subject
Nachos would be worth it.
[He's very serious, but alright, alright-]
It almost sounds like you want me to come around and see you more often.
no subject
You're cute. Why wouldn't I want you around more often?
no subject
I don't know, I'm not a very good customer.
no subject
[That's not even flattery.]
You buy things you don't use, you never start fights, you don't hit on the staff-- besides me, anyway-- and you're always in a good mood. And--
[He grins.]
Despite the fact you're snooping around hoping for some big lead, you haven't broken in once.
no subject
Soooo... I should come see you more often? And snoop around a little less?
no subject
Yeah.
[Abruptly, then:]
Oye. I've got a treat for you next time you come to the bar.
no subject
A surprise? Is it edible? Tell me.
