[Noooo his cheek is even wooooooorse~! He let out a squawk when Alois's finger prods him in the cheek, ducking away with a wounded look, hand pressed against where he had been violated! What is with this guy and invading his personal space!?]
D-Don't do that! I really hate people touching my face! [Especially if they just upped and did it without him knowing! It really... weirded him out!]
[Someone has told Alois "no"... What a weird feeling. He doesn't withdraw his hand more than an inch or so, tilting his head to peer up at Kazuya with half-genuine surprise.]
What? Then how about— [he's going for the shoulder this time] here?
[And he says he isn't strange... This is strange, Kazuya. Alois pokes him again, twice, then drums all his fingers on that innocent shoulder. Now that he has permission...!]
Alright. Right there. Be sure to remind me every now and then.
[Kazuya stared at Alois suspiciously, admittedly weirded out by him drumming his fingers on his shoulder - it felt weird too. He wasn't used to so much physical contact (of the friendly variety) in one sitting. Hugs, pokes, and now this...]
Will do... uh, why are you drumming your fingers on me?
[Alois raises an eyebrow at him, the very picture of "because I can." That's it; in this particular instance with this particular finger-drumming, it's because he can. Don't ask him about the hugging, or he'll have to admit he sometimes has negative feelings beyond 'whiny child.']
—Music, of course. [what... he does it again, then finally quits and takes back his hand to better hold onto this broom] What's wrong with it?
[Nuh uh, he's totally normal. Alois tuts; remember the last time Kazuya started calling stuff weird (and creepy) and he kinda lost it a little... he's not losing it this time. Progress!]
Then we're both strange. It's not so bad with company.
[Progress! Which was good because Kazuya had a poor memory for 'things that upset people', and was prone to spouting off the exact same upsetting thing multiple times before he got a clue]
...yeah. [Kazuya gave Alois an unreadable look - it looked partly nostalgic, and partly bemused. Naoya used to say that a lot when Kazuya had been younger, and still got sad whenever he failed to make friends with other kids his age. It was surreal to have someone else say it to him] You're right. Weird company is better than no company.
[He might want to develop a sense for that, hanging around with Alois. Just a suggestion.
Much of this - tentative friendship, honesty, just interacting with another person in a positive way - is a lot Alois isn't accustomed to and hasn't been for a long time. He realizes again that he wants to believe Kazuya isn't just humoring him in order to be cruel to him later on, and that feeling is oddly sobering. The look he gives in return is perhaps just as unreadable, although with Alois it's always easier to see a more devious edge to his actions. When he speaks, at least, he's not giggling or taunting.] Do you mean that? Really and truly, about me?
[There was something odd about the question, but Kazuya couldn't quite put his finger on it. Was Alois's company better than none? Yes. Loads better. He was slightly crazy and weird and tiring to deal with, but, he was... okay? He kept Kazuya busy from his own worries, in any case, since he was such a handful]
Yeah. I wouldn't be hanging around you like this if I thought you were troublesome or too annoying, or something like that.
[It's a question he likes to ask, because he likes to hear the answer. Someday it won't come as a surprise when he keeps asking it simply for that reason. Being acknowledged feels good, even if it's a backwards kind of acknowledgement— not troublesome or too annoying instead of something directly kind... It's something. One day he'll weasel a proper compliment out of you, Kazuya.]
That's no surprise at all. [that sour grapes attitude is so charming, hehe] I think I might be flattered!
[Kazuya pursed his lips together slightly, taking Alois's comments as mocking. He knew he wasn't the smoothest with his words, but geeze... pout pout pout]
[Don't look at him like that and then ask him those questions, that's practically inviting him to be a little snot in return. He's torn between habitual sassing and the great mystery that is honesty.]
[...what kind of response was that? He felt like he was being led into some sort of trick...]
I think you do. I mean, you, um, hugged me and ask me to do things, so. [a little awkward now, almost a little shy...] Those are good indicators. I think.
[Kazuya sounded genuinely surprised - that was... the first time anyone ever said that. Even Yuzu, who was used to his grumpy attitude, said that Kazuya needed to work on being a little nicer]
Thanks... [He actually looked happy! Ah, Kazuya, you're so simple]
[Let no one accuse Alois of having impossibly high standards (although he still kinda does). He reaches over, but right, he's not supposed to pinch cheeks... A stranger but still arguably (arguably) affectionate pluck to his shoulder will have to suffice.]
Don't get cocky, now. [yea because that's a real risk]
no subject
[Unless they're screaming for a good reason, like, getting attacked or something but - Kazuya felt his logic was sound!]
no subject
So you compromise by not talking to them at all? [can he reach out and poke one of those headphone speakers, because he will try]
no subject
[THESE HEADPHONES ARE HIS PRECIOUS BABIES ALOIS! So he sort of, shied away from Alois's groping hand, giving him a bit of a pouty glare]
I like keeping them on as much as possible, so... yeah. Something wrong with that?
no subject
If I didn't know any better, I'd think you couldn't take them off!
no subject
I wouldn't mind it if I couldn't.
no subject
I told you you were strange. [can he poke him in the cheek instead of the 'phones]
no subject
[Noooo his cheek is even wooooooorse~! He let out a squawk when Alois's finger prods him in the cheek, ducking away with a wounded look, hand pressed against where he had been violated! What is with this guy and invading his personal space!?]

Kazuya's posture immediately relaxed at the poke to his shoulder, his hand lowering from his cheek] There's fine. Just poke me there in future.
no subject
Alright. Right there. Be sure to remind me every now and then.

[Definitely odd, but, hell, if Kazuya was strange, then Alois was downright bizarre in comparison.]

Hn. Well, what about you? Do you like my company?
no subject
I wonder. [ah] I think so, but what do you think?
no subject
I think you do. I mean, you, um, hugged me and ask me to do things, so. [a little awkward now, almost a little shy...] Those are good indicators. I think.

Got it in one! [at least one of them isn't shy—] You're one of the only people here who's actually nice to be around at all, you know.
no subject

[He totally will.
In any case, Kazuya's housing block finally comes into view, and he is distracted from his pouting by the sight of it] Oh! There we are! Dead ahead.
