Naoya used to say that a lot when Kazuya had been younger, and still got sad whenever he failed to make friends with other kids his age. It was surreal to have someone else say it to him] You're right. Weird company is better than no company.

Much of this - tentative friendship, honesty, just interacting with another person in a positive way - is a lot Alois isn't accustomed to and hasn't been for a long time. He realizes again that he wants to believe Kazuya isn't just humoring him in order to be cruel to him later on, and that feeling is oddly sobering. The look he gives in return is perhaps just as unreadable, although with Alois it's always easier to see a more devious edge to his actions.
