Is this a joke? Is this nobleman seriously trying to chase him down? Tch. When he glances back, he looks more annoyed than worried about his pursuant catching up to him. He's in a hurry here, pal. He's not in the mood to fight! Even then, Guts knows it'd look bad if he led him back to Griffith on his stolen horse. Casca might unhinge her jaw to bite his head off the moment he rides into camp. Well. Looks like he'll have to lose the guy, instead.

Riding a horse through the woods was almost never a good idea. Dirt mounds, boulders or tree roots could easily entangle and break their legs. But his traversal through the area let him know that the woodlands near that particular house were orchards - carefully tended forests with flat, even spacing between the trees. The more rugged wilderness sat deeper up the pass. He was confident enough in his own horsemanship to be able to traverse the former with no issues.

And so, with a rough dig of his spurs into the sides of this guy's poor noble steed, he makes a sharp bank to the right and weaves straight between the trunks of some apple trees to enact his reckless plan. Try to follow him, guy!
