[There's a trick they do when they build a host that's in there to maintain the immersion factor: a blindspot for anything that throws back the veil and shatters the illusion. Kakyoin, awake now, doesn't acknowledge it anymore, but for the others it's like a blank space inserted to block anything that shouldn't be there, like a picture from the outside world, or a guest stating outright that the hosts "aren't real." It works in their favor here, as a guest sweeping what appears to be just another guest out of the park doesn't look like anything special at all.

Not to say that Kakyoin is calm and collected on the way out. No, not at all. It's a relief he won't admit when Polnareff pulls him close and quite literally gives him something to hide his face behind if need be, if anyone looks at them too closely. It's a miracle that they don't, that no one spots Kakyoin in the outer room and pushes him back inside instantaneously—

And then they're out, and Kakyoin squints in the sunlight, and he's uncomfortable in these clothes and terrified that the other shoe will drop at any moment but he still, still thinks the sun on his face feels different out here. He's thinking about that and how much these sneakers pinch when Polnareff tugs him along, and he follows while trying to look less shocked by the simple fact that he's outside.

...Also. What the fuck is a motorcycle.]

You want me to get on that thing?

Yeah. Behind me. Just mount it like a horse.

[Muttered. He doubts they're being watched, but he doesn't want to drop his guard until they're well away from this place. Swinging onto the motorbike, he settles into the seat and jerks his head back behind him.]

Wrap your hands around my waist. It's gonna be really loud, okay? And we're gonna go real fast, but it's safe.

[A beat, and with a little smile:]

You trust me?

Hmm. [Does he trust him, or does he simply want to get out of here? That's a question for Polnareff to ponder while Kakyoin awkwardly climbs onto the seat behind him. So far being outside is just an endless list of things that are physically uncomfortable, huh...

Still. He sits there for a moment, looking back at the door into the park's outer facilities. It hasn't quite sunken in yet that he's out here, that he won't wake up in the Lotus Petal in the morning. There's a strange feeling if he ever knew one.

He scoots forward, wrapping his arms around Polnareff's waist. That is much more comfortable than sitting on this terrible seat, for the record.]

Go ahead. [And of course he's going to wait until the engine is drowning out other sounds before he will actually say,] I do trust you.

[It's faint, soft enough that he thinks he imagined it at first-- but no, he'd really said that, and it's stupid how that makes him smile. Not leeringly, but softly. Happily, because he can't imagine how Kakyoin is feeling, hasn't even really thought about it in depth, but even through all that, he trusts Polnareff.

The engine roars, and it's loud, even to him. But there's nothing for it. Just like there's nothing for the speed with which he pulls out of the parking lot and zips into the road, movements easily graceful despite . . . all of him, and how he usually is.

Traffic is easy to navigate; he zips between cars easily, weaving past this man and that woman, too eager to put as much distance behind him as possible. If he notices Kakyoin reacting at all, he doesn't make noise about it. Just lets him react as he likes, in fear or wonder or dull shock, because honestly, this has to feel like a dream.

Has he ever dreamed? He wonders.

It's half an hour to the Joestar compound, an enormous building that he's pretty sure they just own? Like, there are a bunch of offices beneath a few apartments, and he's pretty sure they just own them all, and keep the penthouse for themselves and just put guests (ie, Polnareff) down below. It's weird knowing rich people. He parks his bike and leads Kakyoin through the front door, into the elevator, watching him slightly anxiously all the while. Only once they reach his apartment (it's so, so nice to know rich people) does he calm down.]

Make yourself at home.

[He says it as he kicks off his boots, trying for a casual tone.]

[The further they get from the park, the stranger Kakyoin feels; a mix of delight and terror and furious victory, he won, he's gone, they did it— it's dizzying, or maybe that's the speed of the bike. He closes his eyes somewhere along the way anyway, keeping them shut until they slow down. One day he'll keep his eyes open, but for now, well - this will do.

He's never seen a building this large in his life. At least he looks just like a small town Japanese tourist, one who made it to America before Tokyo somehow, with the way he boggles at the building before they go in.

—Polnareff's apartment is a better-furnished glass box, just like the one in the park, and Kakyoin takes half a step back before that feels stupid and embarrassing and he marches across the room instead to sit on the couch. Decisively. Ah, but it's softer than he expected, what on earth, but at least that gets his expression to relax-]

You live here.

[He lived on a mat in a tiny room until today! This is insane!!]

Er-- I mean, yeah, but it's not mine, it's Jotaro's. Or, well, his family's, I guess, I'm just crashing here.

[It doesn't change the majesty of the view, nor the sheer wealth of the space, but. Just clarifying. But he grins a little, pleased at Kakyoin just sitting where he pleases, and heads for the fridge. Two beers are produced, and he even cracks them both open before coming to sprawl next to his newest companion.]

Pretty good, though, right? Wait til you see the bed.

[For once, it isn't flirting. He's just genuinely psyched about an 800 thread count.]

Later on I can take you out, show you the city properly.

[Kakyoin takes this moment to get the hell out of these sneakers. Now that he's out, can he never wear closed shoes again? Thanks in advance.]

He doesn't talk much, does he? [casually kicking a sneaker under the coffee table... goodbye forever...] But has a definite presence.

[He's big, that is. He's huge and teases Polnareff, which makes him adequate in Kakyoin's eyes. Beer, bed, city tour... Can't a man just sit on a couch for 24 hours in peace? He gives the beer a look, knowing he will not like it, and sips it anyway. Eugh.]

Are we taking the "horse" again? [look, someone did not tell him the word for motorcycle, this isn't his fault.]

Motorcycle.

[A quick correction, light-hearted and not lingering at all.]

[It's a lot of options, but now more than ever Polnareff doesn't want to just pick for himself. It's the guy's first night-- first hour-- of freedom, he won't just choose for him.]

--you're gonna have to wear shoes if we go out, though. Fair warning.

[Shoes... he's never leaving this apartment again. Well, no, but sneakers are the least appealing of the uncomfortable clothes he's had to put on today. He slouches down against the cushions and looks up at the ceiling.]

Walk, I suppose. I'll need something else to wear.

[Shopping is a practical goal, right? That sounds good.]

Tell me you people still wear sandals in 2019.

Kiiiiiind of? We can pick you up a pair. They're open-toed, anyway, but sneakers are way more comfortable.

[But suit yourself. He slumps down a little too and sips at his beer with rather more enthusiasm. One mouthful, two, and then he glances over at him.]

That's essentially what you said about these pants.

[And admittedly, he'll get used to jeans, but it's the principle of the thing. He looks over, still not exactly reveling in this beer.]

[He winks.]

[Hmm........

Kakyoin kicks him in the leg. He took his shoes off and it's not a hard kick, but he still kicks him in the leg. This is Polnareff's reward.]

[Excuse you, you know what's happening next? A headlock, that's what, or at least he's gonna try, because fucking rude.]

[Wow!! Freed and immediately murdered, just like that!! Or: he laughs, because of course he does, and makes only a half-hearted attempt to shove Polnareff off. He needs one hand free to keep this beer from spilling all over this expensive sofa...]

What happened to all of that fretting? It's barely been an hour--

[What an asshole. Polanreff keeps him there for a long few seconds, just to prove he can, before releasing him with a shove. So rude, and his injured expression shows it. No one has ever suffered more than he suffers.]

It's barely been an hour and you're over your gratitude? I expected you to at least say thank you.

[And Kakyoin slouches right back into the cushions like he totally won that... interaction, smug. He wiggles the beer pointedly.]

I'm wearing your ridiculous clothes and drinking your awful alcohol, isn't that enough?

[Or: he's been emotionally fragile enough for one day, cut him some slack.]

You're not wearing my ridiculous sneakers, so, uh, no.

[It is. He turns, lifting one leg up, sitting in such a way that he's claiming as much space as possible, solely because he's like that.]

C'mon. You musta thought about being out here at least a little. What'd you imagine doing?

[Now who's rude... Kakyoin isn't bothered yet, but give it time. He'll defend his corner of the couch whatever it takes.]

Doing...? [He shrugs.] Anything I want. Nothing at all— I've never had the chance to do nothing at all before.

[It's delightful. He sips the beer, which is less so.]

Why, what do you think I should be doing?

[It's odd, thinking of nothing as an indulgence, but he supposes it's true. All of Kakyoin's life has been scripted, and certainly none of it involved idle time.]

I'unno.

[More a noise than a word, really.]

I mean-- we can do nothing, I don't care. I just wanna make sure you're--

[Hm.]

[Oh-- he's sweet. Worrying too much - or maybe the exactly correct amount, considering - but sweet. Kakyoin looks back up at the ceiling and... thinks about what to do. Hm.]

There's time enough for the full experience. [...] I'll put the shoes back on and we can go somewhere soon. You pick.

[Obviously, but yeah.]

[All right! He leaps to his feet, ready to just go and find a billion restaurants, or at least google the hell out of them, but--]

Oh! Important question: you want Japanese food or something foreign?

Would it even be close to the same if we had Japanese food...?

[It's 2019 and a different country, Polnareff. The enthusiasm is endearing, but he is totally useless in this process.]

Yeah, yeah. Hey! We can get it delivered. That's a new thing. People just bring food to your door, it's great, but-- yeah, okay, hang on--

[He has to skedaddle to go order it. And maybe it's good they're taking a little break from one another, the two of them finally exhaling after all of . . . today.

Which, honestly, was a lot. He doesn't regret a single second of it, he'd go back and do it again if he had the chance, but it doesn't mean it wasn't tense. He isn't entirely certain they're out of it, truth be told, but at the same time, it's not like people are breaking down their door.

He orders food. He orders a lot of food, Japanese and Italian and French (obviously), because what's the point if they're not gonna go over the top? Why not let Kakyoin try everything, or at least three things? He wants to spoil the guy, truthfully. He wants to give him everything and anything, because he deserves it.

It's not quite guilt prompting him. He's never stabbed the guy, never once forced him into anything, but . . . others have. And that's more than enough to leave him feeling like he's gotta make up for god, what, all of humanity? Something. Look, it doesn't matter, just let him do this.]

You should probably try a shower, those are fun . . . we can watch shitty tv all night, too, uh, that's like stories but people act them out--

[He says it idly as he comes back, shoving a hand through his hair, mussing it out of its usual style, really committing himself to staying in for a little while.]

[Polnareff's enthusiasm edging further into whatever this is - over the top apology food-ordering, or something - is something they'll have to address sooner or later. Sure, Kakyoin had made some noise about not owing anyone anything for getting him out of the park, but at the same time, he doesn't want to watch Polnareff go just a little off the deep end trying to go above and beyond.

Later, maybe. If it gets to be too much. He can't deny that part of him is flattered that Polnareff seems so happy just doing things for him, but-- mm.

When Polnareff returns, Kakyoin hasn't left the room but he's left the couch, to wander around and pick up decorative knickknacks and stare out the window a bit. He looks back over his shoulder, and-- ah-- puts down an expensive trinket before he drops it like a fool. It's just...]

Your hair looks nice like that.

[Aha, bury him under bougie furniture. Polnareff has always been handsome, but all... casual, hair down, not screwing up a yukata for the fifth time-- damn.
