Prompt: Turnt down in the snow.

[A day has passed since their last catastrophic set back and while Gyro's words had cut some of the pain there were still a lot of wounds to nurse. In fact, Johnny hadn't said anything after they finished the wine. It had been a painfully long day and retreating to rest and quiet was, at the least, not unexpected.

But it was well into the afternoon and Johnny still hadn't spoken up again. Miles in the cold with dull pain throbbing through gun shot wounds and silence. They should have talked. They had to plan their next course of action (further out then surviving the day) but he just didn't have the energy. They had found and lost two corpse parts in the course of one day. How was he supposed to think about the next ones yet?

However, no matter how foul a mood there was no way he would ignore the needs of Slow Dancer. He had been waiting on Gyro to force them to stop and set up camp but it looks like he couldn't be completely checked out forever. And the afternoon wasn't getting any longer. It took some throat clearing before he was sure his call would carry through the wind and the snow but there it is.]

Gyro. Camp?

[Ugh. His voice was still raspy from all the ~~crying~~ shouting yesterday. His face was perfectly emotionless though. As always.]

[Oh yeah.

They've been shot at recently, and only made a half-assed assessment of how beat up they were before the almost-a-tree incident. Gyro's doctor senses are tingling. But not here at the table... so much for finishing this lame dinner, too.

Still, prioritizing. He gets up without letting go of Johnny's hand, just in case he really needs to drag him bodily across the room.]

Let me look at it again. [go lie down, loser.]

[This was the most logical step after whining and yet Johnny did not see it coming. A part of him wants to say it's fine, he's been through worse (which he had), but it just wasn't that type of night. But he at least knew that there would be no dragging around or carrying.

There's a grunt that Gyro is just gonna have to assume means yes and a final squeeze before Johnny lets go to pull himself off the chair and towards the bed. At least it was a simple injury to his shoulder, it didn't even hit anything vital. It was honestly only hurting this much from riding as if nothing was the matter. But he was being cooperative right now so he starts pulling off parka and shirt to throw on the ground. The bandages are still all in place thankfully.

At least a somewhat soft place to sleep tonight would help more than hurt.]

It's not that bad.

[Oh good, no dragging. Gyro just waits until Johnny's more or less settled before following to kneel on the floor next to the bed and scrutinize the bandages. Thanks to what a great doctor he is (cheating with spin), there isn't anything seeping through that needs immediate attention. They should be changed in the morning...

He still gives Johnny a look - who is the doctor here, is it Johnny? Is Johnny the one with the authority to say it's not that bad, or is that Gyro?? That's right.]

It's not bleeding everywhere, so just keep leaving it alone. [Maybe they shouldn't rush out for an early start in the morning, then-- haha, as if that's likely.]

[Look. Johnny wasn't the one that got shot and bled out from his arteries. Compared to that it's not bad at all. Speaking of which.

Johnny nods at the very professional diagnosis and points at Gyro's arm. The doctor isn't getting out of his own injuries so easily here.]

Everything fine with you? You got hit worse.

[Don't go into detail about whatever the weird tree branches did, just tell him yes or no. He doesn't want Gyro faint from lack of blood or something.]

[Okay, he won't mention how he seems to have been mysteriously sealed up and prevented from bleeding out by a magic tree. He doesn't really understand that, anyway... Maybe it was a pity bonus for how fucked over they were. By a tree.

He bends his arm back and forth a few times, demonstrating how whole it is.]

I don't get it, but it looks like I made good time on this one. [It is sore, but that's not important. Look, he's not dying! That's the best he can do today.]

My ass is beat, though. [scoot scoot, babe] Move over.

[Before he can catch himself Johnny makes an actually relieved face. Savor the expression since any are pretty damn rare, especially an embarrassing one like that. Gyro can't know that Johnny worries as well.]

That's good. That means you're fit enough to grab the bedroll, yeah?

[Finish the act from before and carry the luggage over here. Johnny is preoccupied with other things. It's too cold to be messing around shirtless so he reaches down to pick it back up. He isn't gonna wake up with a chill, huddling be damned. He shoves it on and shifts as far to the side as he can.]

Any more and I'm on the floor.

[Thankfully they aren't both hulking men from Italy so there might actually be enough space. Being a short jockey has its own benefits.]

[Work, work, work. Gyro scoffs, like he was definitely going to grab the bedroll all along, and not just crawl into bed and pass out, cold or no cold.]

One bedroll coming up... [Or: he moves to go get it and shakes it out as he returns. Their lovely travel blanket he tosses unceremoniously at Johnny's head for him to deal with as Gyro meticulously gets ready for bed. Meaning he takes off his hat and leaves it on a chair.

Deal with his hulking self elbowing his way onto the bed, anyway. Whoever designed this mattress had normal-sized people in mind, apparently, because his feet are kind of dangling over the end... Ah yes this is luxury.]

[Just because life is shit doesn't mean it's right to skip important steps. Johnny is not going to act as a blanket for Gyro, thanks. Even when one lands on his head. Asshole.

Johnny is used to Gyro's huge self though so he manages not to give up too much territory. He will hold onto this sliver of bed despite the amount of elbows. But that doesn't mean he isn't going to get his revenge in an equally petty way. Gyro should have known never to give Johnny full control of the blanket.

Because he wraps himself up in it, purposefully holding it so none lands on top of Gyro. And with that he turns so his back is towards the other.]

G'night.

[This wasn't in the plan. Now he's barely on this bed in any direction and without any blanket, neither of which are okay things. He turns on his side so he's facing Johnny's back, immediately reaching over to try and pull some blanket off this rude little burrito.]

What the fuck, Johnny.

[Just because he got his elbows all over... That's no reason to do this. His steel balls will freeze, Johnny. His balls.] Johnny...

[Gomen, Gyro. You must feel the sting of betrayal twice in such a short time. Gyro didn't even want to grab a blanket half a minute ago and now this. If he was the type to be as open as Gyro he would even be chuckling right now.]

What?

[As if he isn't curling up to strengthen his grip on the blanket as he asks. They always manage to tangle themselves during the night but Johnny didn't want to keep up the pretext of sleeping back to back tonight. The warmth and steady heartbeat pressed against his back was nice. He can't say that out loud. Or even initiate it. So he presses back against him and holds on tight.]

[Johnnyyyyy... Don't do this, Johnny. Just give him some blanket, he'll stay, it's fine. It's the principle of the thing, he could just roll over and do without the blanket, or he could squish Johnny for being a little shit. But he hasn't gone as far as squishing him yet.]

Don't 'what' me.

[Even so, his "protesting" is half-hearted. He still tugs at the blanket, reaching around Johnny to feel for the edge of it, but that's about it. How hard would it be to roll Johnny off the bed and out of the blanket if he really wanted it? Come on.

Anyway, tug tug.]

[As if Johnny isn't aware of how easily Gyro could shove him off the bed. But he also knows that is something he wouldn't do right now. The doctor would never shove a patient out of bed. Probably.

Anyway, he might as well throw a bone. Johnny turns his head to eye Gyro. Is he really going to say this... Yes.]

You're forgetting the magic word.

[Is Johnny 5 years old? Is Gyro also 5 years old?? The answer to both of these questions is most definitely yes. Gyro gives him a look - is he too proud to beg for some blanket pittance...

No, not really. He'll just do it as annoyingly as he can, pulling on the blanket more fervently to shake Johnny a bit while he does.] Pleeeeeaase, you jackass.

[His next step is threatening not to make coffee in the morning. Don't let it go this far.]

[Being an adult is overrated. Which is why everything has happened today as it has. At least this type of immaturity isn't depressing.

Johnny tries to elbow him in the gut for the shaking stunt, and in the process loosens the blanket as well. He wasn't trying to hold onto it forever but, wow, how anti-climatic.]

Well, gee. Your manners are impeccable.

[He aims another elbow, this time masking it as if he is just trying to shove some of the blankets onto Gyro.]

[Yeah he's a real grown up, that Gyro Zeppeli. Enough of one to take one for the team and let Johnny hit him in the gut (rude) so he can capitalize on this opportunity to steal himself some blanket. Yessss.

There's a chuckle at his own great manners, and this time when Johnny moves again, Gyro is prepared. He presses forward, actually letting go of the blanket to pin Johnny's wild arm with his own and get him to stop that.

It's really just a hug though, and he looks down with his forehead resting against Johnny's shoulder. He sort of dodged Johnny's teary apology earlier just to get him away from crying and back to normal, and now his big compassionate heart feels the need to address that.]

We're okay, y'know. [He said a lot of ultimately depressing things before - "not down and out yet" isn't uplifting, when you actually think about it. So instead of lingering on yesterday or getting ahead of themselves about tomorrow, here and now: they're okay. Both in the sense that they're alive and that Gyro won't harbor any deep resentment about the tree thing.

Just shut up and give him his moment. He's going to bring out the big guns, and then mumble them at Johnny's shirt,] And you're stuck with me.

[Of all the retaliation that was possible a hug was not high on the list. It's a delicate situation, one where Johnny can't figure out between tensing up and relaxing. He was bringing up that horrid display from earlier but he was also forgiving him... None of that was fair. If this was the plan to prevent more crying it might backfire any second.

Anything important like this should have been said during the designated Talk time at the table, dammit.

No matter how vaguely uncomfortable facing emotions make Johnny feel he is also stupidly happy. The moment he just accepts the words is obvious, all trace of unease gone from his body. It helps that Gyro is talking to his back and the only thing in front of him was the slowly darkening room. It was peaceful.

So. Johnny slinks his hand up towards the arm embracing him. Very casually, very suave, he intertwines his fingers with Gyros. Renewing hand holding at a time like this was a normal thing to do, obviously.]

Same to you. I'm not going anywhere.

[Stupid Gyro. What a huge sugary teddy bear.]

[Gyro makes the Talk time rules, thanks much. He doesn't have a plan, exactly - it just doesn't feel right to tell Johnny he is mad at him, really, he is so mad! and then not explicitly forgive him. That's a messy loose end he doesn't want to deal with later. Besides, lying here like this is much nicer without that other crap to think about.

Gyro picks his head up then, shifting that much closer still to plunk his chin on Johnny's shoulder instead. Hey, what's good.]

Give me a day and I'll come up with a great gag about tying you to your horse.

[Like differently than usual. Is this bad pillow talk?]

[What a perfect mix of actually caring and being a complete fucking douche. Seriously. What kind of direction is this conversation going, he can't keep up.

Johnny doesn't let go of his hand, of course not, but the fluttery feeling in his heart sure dissipates as Gyro returns to his normal self. Even though he likes this idiotic side of him just as much. The real question is if he takes the bait or not... Well, it's not like he can be too angry with the reassuring weight of Gyro behind him. He keeps his eye on a whorl in the wooden wall and replies.]

Really? How about Friday then?

[He is calling out this shitty joke(?) right here. Hit him with your best shot.]

What, really? [Even if Johnny usually sort of humors him (ha), that's... okay??] Friday it is, I guess.

[That pretty much ensures that the gag is going to be even worse than usual, but who cares, not Gyro. Friday still counts as getting ahead of themselves about the future, even for a shitty gag, though -- so that's as much as he's going to say on it. Prepare yourself, Johnny!!

Until then... more spoons. He's all drained of tender feelings that desperately need to be shared.] You tired yet?

[With a reaction like that he's almost worried. But it's not like he doesn't weather Gyro's shitty jokes every day of the week. He's tough enough to handle something that might be embarrassing. Nothing can top "do you know what a fetish is?" I mean what, that hasn't happened yet.

Of course he is tired what kind of question is that? He grumbles. And begins shifting and nudging Gyro's head away all so he can turn himself around to face the other. He has to give up hand holding to keep that arm around him but now he is face to face with Gyro. That free hand lands casually on his chest. Hi.]

Yeah?

[Both as an answer and a question towards any more soul sharing he want to embark on.]

[Jeez Johnny, a yes would have sufficed. Not that Gyro's complaining (he may have protested getting nudged in the head, but only for a moment). In fact, he takes it in stride, readjusting his arm around Johnny and cleverly snaking his other arm around, too.

As for soul sharing, he doesn't have anything left to bust out at the last minute, thankfully. It's his goal to get to sleep without Johnny sobbing again, starting now.

There's a brief silence where he just looks at Johnny, then shuts his eyes pointedly so no one has to see his dumb affectionate stare. The slight grin betrays him anyway, but shut up... go to sleep.]

Well quit squirming and go to sleep.

[What a complete dweeb. Johnny just looks at him for a while, dumb grin and everything because he sure didn't miss any of that. But he went through all the trouble to turn around for absolutely nothing. What kind of misleading question...

Well, he's already said good night earlier. It's a good thing Gyro already has his eyes closed because Johnny sneaks up to plant a chaste peck. Enjoy the good night kiss because Johnny sure did if his smirk is anything to go by. It's an all around more open night, so who cares? He hadn't been hiding his neediness earlier.

And it was hard to resist when Gyro was so close.]

[Closing his eyes is really Gyro's big cue for Johnny to actually go to sleep. It's not hard. It's really obvious. He even said it.

Instead he gets a kiss, and cracks one eye open to look at Johnny again. And of course he sees that smirk; so that's how it is... Out and out actually kissing is much closer to crossing the line into "in too deep" territory, but after all the shit they've been through for this whole race, Gyro doesn't really care.

And he's not going to be outdone by this little wiseass!! Before Johnny can get settled Gyro bows his head to land a kiss of his own - decidedly not as chaste, because Gyro "even in daddy's hospital" Zeppeli has a problem with chastity in general. However, it's just as brief, and he pulls away a moment later to shut his eyes again.

So

[And this is the story of how a small kiss quickly spiraled out of control.

Johnny really just wanted to sneak one kiss in and go to sleep. Scouts honor. It was still too soon for anything crazier than that he had decided. And yet it was, again, the most obvious thing that Gyro would take it that step further. Johnny could be the one to take the high road and just curl up to sleep after a very long day. He could be responsible. But Gyro isn't the only one who had a wild and free youth.

There isn't even time to settle before Johnny balls up the front of Gyro's shirt to pull him into a deeper kiss, any thought to brevity lost. It was still somewhat strange, kissing someone who was so much larger and not at all dainty or perfectly made up. A completely unique experience called Gyro. But it was exciting in another way. He could tug and manhandle as much as he wanted, give into his every desire to monopolize. Not like there was another live soul in miles that would interrupt them right now.

Sure, it was desperate. It was needy. But that can be excused when it came to these sorts of things. At least Gyro would probably ignore it.]

[This is my stand, Mr. Brightside.

It would be less dramatic to say Gyro just wants to win, always, even if taking first place in this case means being the better kisser. But honestly, Johnny is here and so close to him and so warm in this cabin getting colder and darker by the minute, and Gyro's done a lot of thinking this past day-ish about what he would do if Johnny really gave up (he still doesn't know), so-- forget the jokes. Johnny can be as desperate and needy as he wants; Gyro isn't going anywhere.

He does still laugh when Johnny pulls him back, but it's a good laugh, and cut short by their mouths connecting again anyway. Rather than lean into the kiss he pulls Johnny into it, the hand around his back tightening on his waist while he knocks Johnny's hat off with the other to get at his hair.
